Our Work

Throughout Friends of the Champ’s existence we have helped fighters get back on their feet.

Here are some of our recent success stories of the fighters we have helped.

"Terrible" Tim Witherspoon

Tim was a 2 time Heavyweight Champion of the world.  When Tim was struggling financially, F.O.T.C. reached out and offered him assistance.

Tim stated “Friends Of The Champ helped ease my stress in helping me pay some overdue bills”

Aaron "Superman" Davis

Aaron was a WBA Welterweight Champion who owns a boxing gym in the Bronx. Aaron has given training to many young boxers over the years at no cost to them as a way of giving back to the community.

During the peak of the Covid pandemic the city had to impose many restrictions to the gym and their trainers. When F.O.T.C. became aware of his situation we donated funds to assist his trainers who could not work due to the pandemic restrictions in place.

Wilfred "El Radar" Benitez

Wilfredo was the youngest 3 time World Champion in History. He is a Hall of Famer who fought legends like Roberto “Hands of Stone “Duran and “Sugar” Ray Leonard. With the assistance of Boxer John Scully, F.O.T.C. provided financial assistance to Wilfredo through his caretaker and sister Yvonne.

Jerry Jones

Jerry was a Heavyweight Fighter who beat Carl “The Truth” Williams and fought Ray Mercer to a split decision. Now in his early 60’s Jerry has fallen on hard times like many fighters do.

He is currently homeless in Temple, Maryland. With the help of a friend of F.O.T.C. Alan Blyweiss and John Zervos (F.O.T.C. President) Jerry was given some financial support. Friends of the Champ are currently planning on doing more for Jerry in the coming months. Jerry was quoted “Johnny Z was sent from God to make my life bearable for a little while & F.O.T.C. has given me hope that life will get better”.
